On 16/3/12 I have prepared three beakers with different solutions and substratum.
First, the beakers were cleaned and the saturated solutions of nickel (II) sulphate (NiSO4) and copper (II) sulphate (CuSO4) are prepared.
Then fishing lines were cut and weighed and put into the different solutions as substratum.
The first beaker is NiSO4 with fishing line immersed.
The second beaker is CuSO4 with fishing line immersed.
The third beaker is CuSO4 with fishing line immersed.
The beakers were put at a corner in Chemistry lab and wait.
Then on 19/3/12, the beakers were taken out for observation.
For the first beaker (NiSO4 with fishing line), crystals grow on the surface of the substratum.
For the second beaker (supersaturated CuSO4 with fishing line), crystals grow at the bottom of the beaker and not on the surface of substratum.
For the third beaker (CuSO4 with fishing line), no crystals was grown on the surface of the substratum so far.
Next, 8 different beakers of solutions were prepared (4 of them were NiSO4 and 4 of them were CuSO4), and different substratum were added to the solution.
The substratum added were:
- glass microscopic slide (cut into small pieces)
- glass capillary tube & glass ball (dia. 2.5 - 3mm)
- plastic rod
- steel epoxy (rolled into rod shape and left dry)
The substratum were weighed and put into one set of solutions (1 beaker of NiSO4 and 1 beaker of CuSO4).
The beakers were again put at a corner in lab and wait.
